Description of a few examples…

2 piece Greenland Paddle Nanook2 BlackBone bases on the shape and size of a traditional west-greenland paddle. It has mild “shoulders” on transition from loom (shaft) to blades. Blade tips are round and as wide as the blade. Out standard material is western red cedar (Thuja plicata) – lightweight and beautiful wood, which generally does not rot. Pine strips on the loom is our “trade-mark” which adds stiffness to our paddles. As a finish, we oil the paddles with tungoil. Wooden paddle treated with oil feels very natural and warm in your hands. Good grip is guaranteed, even when the paddle is wet.

Rebel Husky

”Huskies are playful, hard working and friendly dogs”

One of my first “Greenland” style kayaks was called Husky and this version is something like MK 5 or 6, but still has a lot in common with the original concept. The most recent significant change is that we put some more rocker into the hull to aid manoeveability. We were pleased with the deck layout so we changed nothing there. For a person up to 90kg, Husky is a real playboat – and with some load, it will be a great working dog for multi-day trips.

This version is the Low Volume. With a moderate rocker and more symmetrical hull-shape this is one playful kayak. With a hard chine and flat V-shaped bottom with fine ends towards bow and stern, it’s made to manoeuver. It has a low profile and is very easy to roll. It features stainless steel rods for a towing system or for roof rack security plus has multiple decklines for all of your gear.

Length: 520 cm
Width: 53 cm
Weight : ca. 21 kg
Capacity approx: 135 kg
Cockpit rim: 78 x 42 cm
Hight rim: 20 cm from top of rim to bottom, rear of rim
29 cm from deck to bottom, front of rim
Skeg: Standard
Backrest: Soft
Hatches: Front + Day + Rear

Gnarly dog

Big small One”

The new Gnarly Dog is – as you could probably figure it out – a clone of our Husky. We just stretched the length and increased the beam. All this has been done to gain more volume for the bigger paddler, or a paddler who wants to bring some gear along.

The Big Dog is not what I would like to call a HV kayak, more like an XL, where you still have a good fit and good contact with the kayak. So the Kayak has the same low profile, is easy to roll and manouever. The deck layout is the same as in Husky, so you will recognise it and have space for all what ever you want to put on deck, or lock it onto your roof rack. With a moderate rocker and more symmetrical hull-shape this is one playful kayak. With a hard chine and flat V-shaped bottom with fine ends towards bow and stern, it’s made to manoeuver. Rebel Greenland T

”Everything you need”

Rebel Kayaks’ Greenland T is for paddlers who want a low volume Greenland style kayak with a larger cockpit. The T- model is therefore a slightly expanded ILAGA designed to give the volume and space to suit the bigger cockpit better, but keeping the same 5.45m length.

It features the same classic lines as the Ilaga with a hard chin all the way along the V-bottomed hull. The front deck is still low enough for paddler contact to aid manoeverability and foreward rolls whilst the rear deck makes for easy laid back rolls.

The rocker is tuned for easy maneuvers. We also added an extra cord on the rear deck to store a storm or a spare paddle. Greenland T features the same laminated backrest that connects the seat with the top of the back rim as on the ILAGA. The backrest can be folded to access a little extra ‘close to hand’storage.

The Greenland T’s deck layout is the same as on the Ilaga except for the additon of a 15cm easy access day-hatch. Steel security rods are placed behind the rim for locking the kayak to your roof rack or for a towing system.

Length: 545 cm
Width: 54 cm
Weight : ca. 19,5 kg
Capacity approx: 135 kg
Cockpit rim: 83 x 45 cm
Hight rim: 18cm from top of rim to bottom, rear of rim
27cm from deck to bottom, front of rim

Backrest: foldable integrated + standard soft

Rebel Naja

”Monsters do exist”

The idea has grown from the notion that most kayaks are designed by men, for men, and, oh, by the way, women, you can use it too! This often results in women rattling around in too much space in a kayak that feels heavy and sluggish.

But this time the tables are turned. The Naja is a greenlandic-inspired composite kayak, with close lineage to the Ilaga, but with an audacious spirit all its own.

One of the essential design elements was “a greenland kayak that the designer cannot get into”
A kayak specifically thought about as something that many women will find themselves in and say, ‘this fits me!?!!? It is thought about for people 65 kilos and down, not up! This, by the way, also describes many young and growing kayakers be they eight to sixteen years of age, looking to experience a kayak that will challenge them to grow their skills!

So yes, if that describes you, and you have dreamed of a kayak that is both nimble and quick, that is an extraordinary rolling kayak, that is as easy on the eyes as it is in on your shoulders, then wait no longer as you now have the option of your dreams.

And if you are on the strong side of 65 kilos, you will have a rolling dervish to exceed that sweet Ilaga, if of course you can fit!

Simply put, Naja, by Rebel!

Length : 508 cm
Width : 47 cm
Weight : ca. 14 – 15 kg
Cockpit rim : 44 x 37 cm (traditional round shape)
Hight rim : 14cm from top of rim to bottom, rear of rim
22cm from deck to bottom, front of rim
Skeg : Standard
Hatches : Front + Rear 24cm
Deck layout: Stainless steel rods for a towing system, or for roof rack security, plus has multiple deck lines for all of your gear

Rebel Ilaga

”Probably the best rolling kayak on the market”

Ilaga is one of the most recognized and appreciated greenland kayaks on the market. It’s original shape by Johan Wirsen is available from Rebel Kayaks only. Ilaga is a low volume Greenland style kayak. It features an integrated foldable laminated backrest for layback rolls and to give access to storage between the back rest and rear bulkhead. It also faetures steel rods for roof rack security or tow line mounting.

ILAGA in Greenlandic means “friend”; and you should be as picky when choosing your kayak as you are when picking your friends!

‘’This kayak started as a small project in my workshop, using the experience I gained earlier from building Greenland style kayaks. Nobody, including myself, had dreamed of the great response it would get. The Rebel Kayaks’ Ilaga is one of the most recognized kayaks on the market today!” – says Johan.
